Part 09 · Habit & Studying
Chunk-Based Study Protocol
Predict → Correct → Recall → Compare → Analyze — with spaced review across sessions
0 · Setup
- Define the scope — decide the full material to be covered this session. e.g. a chapter, a paper, a lecture transcript
- Chunk it — split the scope into digestible sections you'll process one at a time.
1 · Per-chunk loop (repeat for each chunk)
- Guess / Predict — before reading, predict what the chunk will say.
- Read — fix errors in your prediction and generate questions as you go.
- Drop clean chunks — remove any chunk that came back clean in the previous two rounds.
- Close source & recall — recall prior chunks at gist level; recall the current chunk in full detail.
- Open source & compare — reopen the material and check your recall against it.
- Critical analysis — evaluate gaps, misunderstandings, and what needs more work.
2 · Per-session wrap-up
- Backward recall — go through this session's questions in reverse order and answer from memory.
- Flag by confidence — mark each recalled answer using the scale below.
| Flag | Meaning |
|---|---|
| RED | No recall |
| YELLOW | Shaky |
| BLUE | Mostly solid |
| GREEN | Clean |
- Adjust spacing — for every clean (green) recall, halve the recall frequency cumulatively — i.e. double the interval before it's tested again.
3 · Session tracker
| Chunk # | Topic / Section | Predict | Read | Recall | Compare | Confidence flag |
